They were the first to notice and encourage her community development and entrepreneurship skills since Luisa was 10 years-old. Her mother helped collect empty medication boxes from family and friends hoping to influence Luisa to pursue a career in science. Soon, Luisa developed a pharmacy shop in the home's backyard where she will role-play the pharmacist/owner, and her cousins and neighbors, her employees and customers. However as a teenager, Luisa couldn’t wait to start making money. She launched a home fitness center for women, a flower market, and a child care service targeting consumers in her neighborhood. Growing up, she learned that creating businesses was at her core. During The Big Recession in 2008, she realized how powerful those early experiences shaped her conviction to lifelong learning and helping communities like the one she grew up in Peru. By 2019, there was enough evidence that automation was going to impact the likelihood of many of us. Resuming to her childhood interests, Luisa triggered memories of playing as a pharmacist to recreate happy moments that she could replicate to inspire others facing job losses and living in extreme poverty. After running a non-scientific market research across 22 rural cities, Nxt Wave Founders (NWF) was born as a side-project by New Year's Eve of 2019. Three months later, COVID-19 couldn't present a better timing to follow Luisa's north star and fight for economic mobility through education and entrepreneurship that can be compatible with sustainable growth.
As Founder CEO of Nxt Wave Founders, a nonprofit startup since 2020, Carmen ("Luisa") toggles between researching and transforming youth economic mobility through entrepreneurship by providing free, equitable access to data science training to teachers who want to help students solve and incubate STEM solutions through fellowship immersions.
With Nxt Wave Founders Initiatives, Luisa weaves her teaching and curriculum design experience at University of Tampa and Everest University since 2006 with her center model approach to amplify access to individuals with disabilities. Across academia, finance, and software development experience in Chase Manhattan Bank, Crown International, State Farm, Cadbury Schweppes, WellCare and Azimuth Wealth Management, Luisa saw the disability community gaps firsthand and the consequences of ‘producers’ and ‘consumers’ of disability and healthcare data not always aligning. Trained in the CourseKata approach with UCLA Teaching and Learning Lab, she felt inspired to democratize access by providing everyone, everywhere, with options.
She has experience as a self-made entrepreneur, bootstrapping, discovering and applying graphical-spikes, mindfulness journaling and brain performance training in a wide range of design sectors and challenges such as the environment, human mobility, smart cities, regenerative agriculture, clean energy, and ecosystem building. She toggles between practice as the Founder of Nxt Wave Founders, Inc., Co-Creation Nation and Disability Data Access Labs; the academics as a Graduate Entrepreneurship Instructor and Leadership Coach, and as an independent, non-scientific researcher piloting the effectiveness of her proprietary The Fundable Entrepreneur Method©, an interactive series of graphical spike-mindfulness approach to complement multiple start-up approaches.
Luisa's purpose is to connect all entrepreneurs with the genius inside every human being wishing to contribute to a more inclusive future; first, as a source of inspiration and optimism; and second, as an endeavor to move individuals, families and communities upward.
