NWF Foundation has tracked a 20-year period of stagnation in rates of inclusive entrepreneurship. This is due in part to unequal access to entrepreneurship for women, people of color, people with disabilities and rural Americans. That’s why NWF helped launch the Deep Data Detective (D3) Initiative coalition to champion the 10-year mission, designed to impact 1 million of young Americans further economic mobility through sustainable careers and inclusive entrepreneurship. 23 Mayors are among those partnering to bring D3 Pilots to their cities to teach climate and data science evaluation sustainability strategies.
Last week, VentureBeat referenced D3 Adventures, a flagship initiative of nonprofit, Nxt Wave Founders (NWF).
Just hours earlier, D3 Adventures was announced a Prize Winner of the Global Designing for Digital Thriving Challenge powered by @ideo @riotgames @FairPlayA @CooneyCenter @hopelab @scefdn. This is a big win for a nonprofit startup fueled by volunteers.
"Winning this [PRIZE] would not have been possible without the guidance of our coaches @Tammy Gretz @Celia Rene-Corail @Andreas Yanikian @Jeffrey Burrell @Matt Hovde, the untiring support of the [IDEO TEAM] and the inspiration of millions of peers and co-awardees in this global community, for whom we have the deepest respect, and from whom we have derived the strength to challenge ourselves to perform better at each stage." ~ Luisa Bracamonte, Founder.
Tampa, FL – (December 07, 2022) – Deep Data Detectives (D3), a flagship initiative of Nxt Wave Founders (NWF), has launched a $50,000 fundraise to accelerate its evidence-based pilot across 23 States considered hotspots of impacts and risks, but also a crucial part of the solution. “The D3 Initiative is teaming up with community stakeholders, that we like to call ‘D3s’, to make data evaluation and analysis a collective action through an equity lens,” said NWF Founder and CEO Luisa Bracamonte. “The initiative is part of our commitment to advance sustainability and data science education for untapped populations.”
The Program will run from December 2022 to June 2023 to support exploratory activities for 1,800 Black people and people of other races with sidelined talent. “We see an incredible unutilized and under-utilized potential to fund and scale D3s' interventions that are primed for impact. To avoid mounting loss of life, biodiversity and infrastructure and the impact on jobs and healthcare, ambitious, accelerated action is required to adapt to climate change and deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. So far, progress on adaptation is uneven and there are increasing gaps between action taken and what is needed to deal with the increasing risks among lower-income populations,” Bracamonte added.
Together, growing urbanization and climate change create complex risks, especially for those cities that already experience poorly planned urban growth, high levels of poverty and unemployment. But cities also provide opportunities for climate action – green buildings, reliable supplies of clean water and renewable energy, and sustainable transport systems that connect urban and rural areas can all lead to a more inclusive, fairer society. There is increasing evidence of adaptation that has caused unintended consequences, for example destroying nature, putting peoples’ lives at risk or increasing greenhouse gas emissions. This can be avoided by involving everyone in exploration, evaluation, planning, attention to equity and justice, and drawing on Indigenous and local knowledge.
23 Mayors are among those partnering to bring D3 Pilots to their cities to teach climate and data science evaluation sustainability strategies. The collection of baseline data will help NWF fund and scale community interventions, infrastructure, and AI/ML games and other technologies for a pipeline of untapped entrepreneurs, small business owners and diverse entrepreneurs.
Backers and Donors have the flexibility to either make one lump-sum contribution or a series of contributions TODAY, TOMORROW, NEXT WEEK, shucks even NEXT YEAR! Any contribution — of cash or non-cash assets — received by December 31 may qualify for a 2022 tax deduction.
